Captain Brian Coody is Bixby Fire Department’s newest captain. He promoted to the captain’s position in May of 2019. Giving over 16 years of his life to the fire service, Captain Coody brings a fresh and exciting brand of leadership to the department. He began his career as a three year volunteer, then three and a half years with the Coweta Fire Department before spending the last eleven years with the Bixby Fire Department.
Captain Coody has certifications in Firefighter 1 & 2, EMT, Advanced Vehicle Extrication, LPG, Hazmat Ops, Ropes 1 & 2, Ag Rescue, Trench/Confined Space Rescue, Water Rescue, Fire Cause and Determination, Instructor 1 and Fire Officer 1. He has emerged as a leader in the area of emergency medical work within the department. His insight and energy has vastly improved the overall efficiency of our communities EMS service.
When asked what made him want to become a firefighter, he stated that growing up with a friend whose dad was the fire chief allowed him to see the inner workings and the camaraderie of firefighters. This experience convinced him that this was the career path he was destined for. Captain Coody also added that every day at the fire station brings a different and unique experience and he loves the variety of opportunities to help others.
He and his wife Kim have been married for 16 years. They have one daughter, Ryan who is 13 years old. Away from the fire station Brian loves spending time with his family at the lake, hunting, fishing and OU football. Like most firefighters, he does a variety of side jobs but mostly enjoys the freedom of being able to help others when the need arises.
Captain Coody’s desire to make our world a safer place to live and work has challenged those in his command as well as his peers to be better firefighters. The Bixby Fire Department and the citizens of Bixby are fortunate to have the service of Captain Coody and we look forward to many more years of his leadership within the department and community.
