Bixby, OK | August 11th, 2023 – In response to a July 5th report of potential settlement of the White Church Creek Bridge deck on 131st Street, just west of Garnett, the City of Bixby temporarily closed the roadway to allow for a bridge inspection and evaluation. The engineering firm, which most recently inspected the bridge for Tulsa County in 2021, completed the field investigation and recommended permanent closure on July 7th.
Subsequently, in the interest of Public Safety and regional access, on July 24th, Bixby City Council awarded contracts for an emergency bridge replacement. Currently, construction operations are pending issuance of a Nationwide 14 Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. (White Church Creek is a jurisdictional waterway.) The Permit is expected to be released upon receipt of all comments from a number of State and Tribal stakeholders. As soon as the permit is issued, work will commence.
The City appreciates your understanding, and a definitive construction schedule will be issued upon Permit approval.
